ARE YOU

TIRED OF
CRANKING

Then why continue to do it? It's a useless waste of time and why run the risk of being seriously injured or even killed? It's a whole lot easier to press a button than to do a lot of cranking anyway and you might just as well take things as easy as anybody else.

NOW LISTEN! If you'll put a Walker Starter on your engine you can lie abed longer in the morning and you can rest assured that your engine is going to start the moment you want it to regardless of the temperature or humidity. You won't have a whole crew of men or a car full of friends standing around wasting time or giving you bushels of free advice, either.

A WALKER GAS ENGINE STARTER

is adaptable to all makes, sizes and types of internal combustion engines. By the Walker system a perfectly carbureted charge of hydrogen and oxygen, which are taken from the fuel and the air, is produced independent of the running of the engine and is admitted directly to the combustion chamber. You simply press a button, the charge is ignited and your engine starts instantly. It must work, whether the themometer registers forty below or a hundred and forty above; whether the air is clear and light or damp and heavy. Guaranteed 100% efficient.

Get a Walker starter right away. Use it a year, or two, or three. If it doesn't give you perfect satisfaction, send it back and we'll refund your money and pay freight both ways. You can't lose. Drop us a line and let us tell you how cheap they are.

culties in handling the heavy soil. The first was with the plows. The ordinary plows did not have a frame that was heavy enough to stand the work. It was necessary to construct a new frame. In doing this, two gangs of four plows each were combined. The plows were made by Howser & Haynes of Stockton, California.

needed, so a small portable gasoline engine and pump are moved from one well to the other.

The engine is a Fuller & Johnson farm pump engine and the pump is made by F. E. Myers & Bro. The two are mounted on a low truck that may be attached to the back of the tank wagon. This outfit is just about the right size to keep

The new frame consists of the following parts: the big steamer supplied.

125-HORSE POWER STEAMER PLOWING ADOBE.

One 6 x 12 for the main beam; three 6 x 7 for the land beams; three 4x6 for the center beams; one 6 x 12 on the furrow side. Between every standard is a turnbuckle with an inch rod that pulls to the main draw bar. The levers that lift the plows out of the ground are home-made. Their construction is plainly shown in the accompanying picture. The wheels are the ones used on the original plows from which the new one was made.

Plowing is begun as soon as the hay is removed, which is usually about the first of June. It is continued until the rains come, which is about December 1. During that time the two

engines are busy. They work a twelve hour day now, and the manager believes that the extra work is worth all the extra time costs.

The fields are mostly large and a well with a storage tank is provided in each. This avoids hauling the water long distances. The tanks are not large enough, however, to supply all the water

Another very important part of the field equipment is a repair wagon. This consist of a big platform mounted on an ordinary wagon. It is provided with a work bench, boxes for storage of tools and materials, an anvil, a forge, a drill, and a vise. When anything goes wrong with the engines, the repair wagon is hauled to the engine and the repair work is done in a minimum amount of time at a minimum cost. With so much work to be done in a limited time, it is necessary to keep both outfits in the field every minute possible, so these conveniences that keep the work under way are almost as necessary as the engines themselves.

Claude had disobeyed his parents, and his mother knew it.

"I am afraid," she said, "that when I tell your father what you have been doing this forenoon he will punish you severely."

"Have you got to tell him, Mother?" asked the boy.

"Yes," was the reply; "I shall tell him immediately after dinner."

"Well, Mother," said the boy, "give him a real good dinner, won't you? You might do as much as that for me."-July Lippincott's.

The motors on all the foreign cars in the Indianapolis races were what might be termed long stroke motors.
