Warrant, to forfeit 501.

A. D. 1790. obliged to pay into the Hands of the acting Church warden of the Constable to Parish aforesaid, all and every Sum or Sums of Money whatso- levied, to ever, as he shall, from time to time, so have levied, within six Days Churchwarnext after his levying the same, under Penalty of fifty Pounds, current Days, under Gold and Silver Money of the said Island, to be levied upon his Penalty of 50%. Goods and Chattels by Distress and Sale in Manner aforesaid : And in case any Constable of the Parish, shall neglect or refuse to exe- neglecting cute

any such Warrant or Warrants as aforesaid, according to the true Intent and Meaning of this Act ; that, then, and in such Case, every leviable, &c. Constable so offending, shall forfeit the Sum of fifty Pounds, like Money, to be levied by Distress and Sale of his Goods and Chattels in Manner aforesaid: And in case such Defaulter or Defaulters, shall have no Goods and Chattels in the said Parish ; then to take Defaulters and imprison him, her, or them in the Common Jail of this Island, Goods, to be until such Taxes, and all incidental Costs and Charges of Levy, imprisoned. shall be fully paid.

VIII. And be it further enacted by the Authority aforesaid, That Monies raised all Monies to be received by Virtue of this Act, shall be applied to- to be applied wards the Maintenance of the Poor of the said Parish of Saint taining St. John.

IX. And be it further enacted by the Authority aforesaid, That In force by this Act shall be deemed and taken to be a Public Act, and shall No. 540, S. 2. continue in force for three Years from and after the Publication thereof. Dec. 1799, for

WHEREAS the Practice of confessing Judgments by Virtue of Warrants of Attorney, which hath, for many Years, generally prevailed in this Island of Antigua, although in many Respects useful and proper, doth, nevertheless, often occasion a very unequal Distribution of the Estates of the Debtor, the whole of such Estate being often applied to the Satisfaction of the first Writ of Execution : And
