3 He with loving-kindness crown'd thee;
Satisfied thy mouth with good;
From the snares of death unbound thee;
Eagle-like thy youth renew'd.

Rich in tender mercy He,
Slow to wrath, to favour free.
3 From eternity, enduring
To eternity-the Lord,
Still his people's bliss ensuring,
Keeps his covenanted word:
Yea, with truth and righteousness
He will children's children bless.

PSALM 104.

The praise of God as the Creator of the universe. 1 MY soul, praise the Lord; his greatness proclaim. Jehovah, our God, how glorious thy name, Surpassing in honour, dominion, and mightThy throne is the heaven, thy robe is the light. 2 With canopied arch the firmament high Thy chamber of state displays in the sky; The clouds are a chariot thy glory to bear: On wings thou art wafted,-the wings of the air. 3 As rapid as fire, the angels on high

Convey thy commands, thy ministers fly. The earth, on its basis eternal sustain'd, Is fix'd in the station thy wisdom ordain'd. 4 The world, when at first from nothing compos'd, Was void, without form, in waters enclos'd. The voice of thy chiding, thy thunder, was heardThe waters subsided, the mountains appear'd. God's wisdom in providing for the earth, and its seasons. 5 THY Providence fix'd the stream, and its source; The sea knows its bounds, the river its course. Convey'd thro' dark conduits, springs rise on the

hills,

They burst on the fountains, they fall on the rills.

6 The beasts of the earth their forests forsake, The herds quit the field, to drink of the lake; On trees crown'd with verdure, its margin along, Birds, warbling sweet music, praise God in their song.

7 Descending to earth clouds plenteousness pour: All nature revives, earth smiles in the shower; A garment of verdure apparels the plain,

Fruits swell in the garden, fields wave with the grain.

8 The moon by thy law increases and wanes;
The sun keeps the course thy wisdom ordains;
He sets, and the lion roams wide for his prey,
But flies to his cavern, when morn brings the day.
9 Then man, with the day, his labour renews,
And, till night arrives, his labour pursues.-
Such, Lord, is the wisdom thy works all proclaim:
Let earth, crown'd with riches, rejoice in thy name!
The dependence of the whole creation upon God, for its being,
and well-being.

10 WHAT wisdom is shown, what power is display'd,
In all that God's hand hath fashion'd and made!
The earth-full of riches, in beauty complete!
The fathomless ocean-with wonders replete!
11 By knowledge supreme, by wisdom divine,
God governs the world with gracious design;
O'er beast, bird, and insect, His providence reigns,
Whose will first created, whose love still sustains.
12 Thy will, and thy word, gave creatures their breath;
Consum'd by thy blast, they sink into death:
Restor'd at thy pleasure, new beings repair
To people the waters, the earth, and the air.
13 Rejoice then, O LORD, in glory secure:
The works, THOU hast made, through ages endure!
To life's latest moment, my soul, ever raise
The song of thanksgiving, the chorus of praise.

PSALM 105.

An exhortation to praise God, to make known his works, and to seek his favour. Sung on occasion of the placing of the ark in Zion. See 1 Chron. xv. xvi.

1 0 RENDER thanks and bless the Lord,
Invoke his sacred name;
Acquaint the nations with his deeds,
His matchless deeds proclaim.

2 Sing to his praise in lofty hymns,
His wondrous works rehearse;
Make them the theme of your

And subject of your verse.

3 Rejoice in his Almighty name, Alone to be ador'd,

discourse,

And let their hearts o'erflow with joy
That humbly seek the Lord.

4 The wonders that his hands have wrought,
Keep thankfully in mind;

The righteous statutes of his mouth,
And laws to us assign'd.

The goodness of God, exemplified in his covenant with Abraham. 5 GOD'S cov'nant, in his changeless mind, Stands, like himself, secure;

His Church thro' ev'ry age shall find
His word of promise sure.

6 of old with Abra'm and his race,
The Lord his cov'nant made:
By faith he left his native place,
And like a pilgrim stray'd.

7 His children, in the promis'd land,
As helpless strangers rov'd:

From them God held th' oppressor's hand,
And kingly power reprov'd.

8 Those chosen prophets still he blest,
And kept secure from harm:

Thus will he guide his Church to rest,
Protected by his arm.

The providential care of God towards his people exemplified in the history of Joseph.

9 AGAIN God's faithfulness review, As Israel's story we pursue:

Jehovah broke the staff of bread,

And famine's woes thro' Canaan spread.
10 Yet did his providential care
In Joseph future aid prepare;
Joseph, by envious brethren sold,
Their kind preserver we behold.
11 Lord, how mysterious are thy ways!
On guiltless feet the fetter preys.
But, Lord, did righteousness opprest
Beneath the chain unheeded rest?
12 No; he endured thy sov'reign will,
Till time his presage should fulfil.
Then Egypt's Lord the captive freed,
His prescience own'd, his rule decreed.

13 See Jacob's house to Egypt led,

In Goshen plac'd, by Joseph fed!
Adore that God who blest them there,
And trust his providential care.

The tribulation of God's people in Egypt the occasion of repeated mercies to them.

14 WHEN God his flock from Egypt brought,
Signal the works for them he wrought;
Signal the varied judgments pour'd
On Egypt's sons by Israel's Lord.

15 Then Egypt's sons, by terrors tost,
With joy behold the marching host;
O'er whom by day the cloud was spread,
By night the flaming pillar led.

16 The heaven-sent quails their food supplied;
The smitten rock pour'd forth its tide.
The Lord in mind his promise bore,
To faithful Abra'm made of yore.

17 The heathen lands his arm confest;
And Israel enter'd Canaan's rest,
That they his statutes might obey,
And keep with cheerful heart his way.

18 O let his laws our path direct!

Then shall our God his Church protect;
From Christ our Rock shall comfort flow;
Till he the rest of heaven bestow.

PSALM 106.

Praise to God, the happiness of his people, and prayer for a participation of it.---Occasion the same as that of Psalm cvi.

1 O RENDER thanks to God above,
The fountain of eternal love;

Whose mercy firm through ages past
Has stood, and shall for ever last.
2 Who can his mighty deeds express,
Not only vast but numberless?
What mortal eloquence can raise
His tribute of immortal praise?

3 Extend to me that favour, Lord,
Thou to thy chosen dost afford:
When thou return'st to set them free,
Let thy salvation visit me.

4 O may I worthy prove to see
Thy saints in full prosperity;
That I the joyful choir may join
And count thy people's triumph mine.

5 Let Israel's God be ever blest,
His name eternally confest;

Let all his saints with full accord
Sing loud Amens-praise ye the Lord.
