4 With holy, reverential fear,
We'll to his house repair;
Before his footstool prostrate fall,
And pour our humble prayer.

Prayer for God's blessing to his Church; and the fulfilment of his promises to David celebrated. See Acts ii. 30.

5 RISE to thy rest, eternal Lord!
Thou and thine ark divine:

More than the ark, with glory stor❜d,
Messiah's glories shine.

6 Lord, with thy righteousness invest,
Those that thy truth proclaim;
Thy saints with holy joy be blest,
Who triumph in thy name.

7 The Lord in truth to David swore,-
And hath his truth display'd;
The promis'd throne, for evermore,
Is to his seed convey'd.

8 For Zion is Jehovah's choice;
There is Messiah's throne!
There in his blessing we rejoice,
And there his presence own!

The promises made to David, and to the Church, pleaded by the faithful.

9 O LORD of Zion, hear our vows ;
For we thy promise plead:
Bless the provisions of thy house,
And fill thy poor with bread.

10 The heralds of thy truth array
With thy salvation's grace;
And let thy saints their joy display
In liveliest songs of praise.

11 Here let the Son of David reign;
Let God's Anointed shine!

And let thy truth his court maintain
With love and power divine!

12 Here let him hold a lasting throne;
And, as his kingdom grows,

Fresh honours shall adorn his crown,
And shame confound his foes.
PSALM 133.

The comfort and advantages of unity.
1 HOW vast must their advantage be,
How great their pleasure prove,
Who live like brethren, and consent
In offices of love!

2 True love is like that precious oil,
Which, pour'd on Aaron's head,
Ran down his beard, and o'er his robes
Its fragrant moisture shed; -

3 Refreshing as the nightly dews
On Hermon that distil;

Or as the early drops that fall
On Zion's fruitful hill.

4 There God to all, whose friendly hearts
With mutual love abound,
Hath firmly promis'd length of days,
With constant blessings crown'd.

PSALM 134.

The members of the christian Church, like the Levites watching in the temple, call on each other to praise God, and on God to bless them. Lev. viii. 35.; 1 Chron. ix. 33.; Is. Ixii. 6.;

Rev. xvii. 15.

1 YE that, to serve the King of kings, Attend his holy place,

Bow to the glories of his power,

And bless his wondrous grace.

2 Lift up your hands by morning light,
And send your souls on high;

Raise your admiring thoughts by night
Above the starry sky..

3 The God of Zion cheers our hearts
With beams of quickening grace ;—
The God that spreads the heavens abroad,
And rules the swelling seas..

VERSION II,

1 YE, that the Lord adore,
And round his altar wait;
That keep your watch before
The threshold of his gate;
His praises sing By silent night,
Till cheerful light With morning spring.

2 Your hands devoutly raise

To his divine recess;

The world's Creator praise;
And thus his people bless:

"The God of love, From Zion's towers,
"To you and yours Propitious prove."

PSALM 135.

Praise to God for his dealings in providence and grace. 1 PRAISE ye the Lord with one consent, And magnify his name;

Ye, that his holy courts frequent,

His worthy praise proclaim.

2 Praise ye the Lord; the Lord is good,
And praise is sweet employ;-
Israel his chosen were of old;
His church is still his joy.

3 Great is the Lord, o'er every power
Exalted is his throne:

Above, below, through earth and sea,
Whate'er he wills is done.

4 Thro' ev'ry age his name endures;
He breaks th' oppressor's rod.
He gives his suff'ring servants rest,
And reigns th' Almighty God.

PSALM 136.

A Psalm of thanksgiving for the wonders of Creation, Providence, and Grace.

1

TO God, the mighty Lord,

2

Your joyful thanks repeat;

To Him your praise afford,

As good as He is great.

For God will prove our constant friend;
His boundless love will never end.

How mighty is His hand!

What wonders hath he done!

He made the sea and land,

And spread the heavens alone.

This God will prove our constant friend;
His boundless love will never end.

3 He, in our sin and woe,

4

On man with favour thought;

And from our cruel foe

Hath full redemption wrought.

And He will prove our constant friend;
His boundless love will never end.

He does the food supply,

On which all creatures live;

To God who reigns on high,

Eternal praises give.

For God will prove our constant friend;
His boundless love will never end.

VERSION II. (Milton)

1 LET us, with a gladsome mind,
Praise the Lord, for he is kind!

Let us blaze his name abroad,
For of Gods he is the God!
For his mercy shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

2 He, by wisdom, did create
Earth and heaven, so full of state;
He, with all-commanding might,
Fill'd the new-made world with light.
For his mercy shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

3 He the golden-tressed sun
Made by day his course to run;
And the moon to shine by night,
With her spangled sisters bright.
For his mercy shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

4 He his chosen tribes did bless
In the wasteful wilderness:
He hath seen with piteous eye,
And reliev'd our misery:

For his mercy shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

5 All things living He doth feed,
His full hand supplies their need:
Let us therefore warble forth
All His majesty and worth;
For his mercy shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

VERSION III. (O. V.)

1 PRAISE ye the Lord, for he is good; For his

Mercy endureth for ever.

Give praise unto the God of Gods;

For &c.

Give praise unto the Lord of Lords;

For &c.

Who only doth great wonders work;

For &c.
