4 Oh! may we keep and ponder in our mind, 1 HARK! the herald angels sing, 66 Glory to the new born King; Joyful, all ye nations, rise, Pleas'd as man with men t' appear, 3 Hail, the heaven-born Prince of peace! Light and life to all he brings, Born that man no more may die; 4 Come, Desire of nations, come! Rise, the woman's conqu❜ring seed; ! ANGELS, from the realms of glory, Worship Christ the new-born King. 2 Shepherds, in the field abiding, Watching o'er your flocks by night, God with man is now residing, Yonder shines the infant-light; Come, &c. 3 Sages, leave your contemplations, Seek the great Desire of nations; Come, &c. 4 Saints, before the altar bending, Come, &c. 5 Sinners, wrung with true repentance, Doom'd for guilt to endless pains, Justice now revokes the sentence; Mercy calls you, break your chains; Come &c. 1 COME, thou long expected Jesus!! 1 2 3 4 2 Israel's strength and consolation, 3 Born thy people to deliver; 4 By thine own eternal Spirit, BEHOLD, the grace appears, Mary the wondrous virgin bears, And Jesus is the child. The Lord, the highest God, He bids him rule the lands abroad, O'er Jacob shall he rule With a peculiar sway; The nations shall his grace obtain, "Glory to God on high," HYMN 168. 1 HOSANNA to the royal Son His natures two, his person one, 2 Blest He that comes to wretched men To Christ the Lord be given. 3 Let mortals ne'er refuse to take Lest senseless stones should chide, and break Epiphany. During this season we are led to consider the Manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles, as an earnest of the future universal conversion of the Gentiles;-Christ's entrance on his ministry, -the manifestation of his glory by miracles, &c. when he came, as the only-begotten Son of God, declaring to us the power, perfections, and mercy of the Father. HYMN 164. 1 BRIGHT was the guiding star that led, 2 But lo! a brighter, clearer light It shines through sin and sorrow's night 3 O gladly tread the narrow path, While light and grace are given; HYMN 165. I BRIGHTEST and best of the sons of the morning! Dawn on our darkness, and lend us thine aid; Star of the east! the horizon adorning, Guide where our infant Redeemer is laid. 2 Cold on his cradle the dew-drops are shining, Low lies his bed with the beasts of the stall; Angels adore Him, in slumber reclining, Maker, and Monarch, and Saviour of all. 3 Say, shall we yield Him, in costly devotion, Odours of Edom, and offerings divine, Gems of the mountain, and pearls of the ocean, Myrrh from the forest, and gold from the mine? 4 Vainly we offer each ample oblation, Vainly with gold would his favour secure; Richer by far is the heart's adoration, Dearer to God are the prayers of the poor. 5 Brightest and best of the sons of the morning, Dawn on our darkness, and lend us thine aid! Star of the east, the horizon adorning, Guide where our infant Redeemer is laid! HYMN 166. 1 SONS of men! behold from far, 3 Nations all, remote and near! 4 There behold the day-spring rise, |
