3 Delightful hour! how soon will night
Spread her dark mantle o'er thy reign!
And soon the morn's returning light
Will call us to the world again!

4 Yet will there dawn, at last, a day;
A sun, that never sets, shall rise;
Night will not veil his glorious ray;-
The heav'nly sabbath never dies.

HYMN 299.

1 LONG have we sat beneath the sound
Of thy salvation, Lord:

But still how weak our faith is found,
And knowledge of thy word!

2 How cold and feeble is our love!
How negligent our fear!
How low our hope of joys above!
How few affections there!

3 Great God, thy sov'reign aid impart
To give thy word success:
Write thy salvation on our heart,
And make us learn thy grace.

4 Shew our forgetful feet the way
That leads to joys on high;
Where knowledge grows without decay,
And love shall never die.

1 LORD! now we part in thy blest Name,
In which we here together came;
Grant us, our few remaining days,
To work thy will and spread thy praise.

2 Teach us in life and death to bless
Thee, Lord! our strength and righteousness;
And grant us all to meet above,

Where we shall better sing thy love!

ON what has now been sown
Thy blessing, Lord, bestow;
The pow'r is thine alone

0

To make it spring and grow:
Do thou the gracious harvest raise,
And thou alone shalt have the praise.
HYMN 302.0

1 LORD, dismiss us with thy blessing,
Fill our hearts with joy and peace;
May we each, thy love possessing,
Triumph in redeeming grace:
O refresh us,

Trav'lling through the wilderness.
2 Thanks we give, and adoration
For thy gospel's joyful sound:
May the fruit of thy salvation
In our hearts and lives abound:
Ever faithful

To the truth may we be found.

HYMN 303.

P

1 CHRISTIAN brethren! ere we part, Every voice and every heart

One glad hymn to God should raise,
One high song of grateful praise.

2 Here we all

e we all may meet no more,

But there is a happier shore;
There, releas'd from toil and pain,
Brethren, may we meet again.

3 Now to God, the Three in One,
Be eternal glory done;

Raise, ye saints, the sound again,
Gladly join the loud Amen.

HYMN 304.

1 SEE Israel's gentle Shepherd stands,

With all-engaging charms;

Hark! how he calls the tender lambs,
And folds them in his arms.

2" Permit them to approach," he cries,
"Nor scorn their humble name;
"For 'twas to bless such souls as these
"The Lord of angels came."

3 We bring them, Lord, with thankful hearts,
And yield them up to thee;
Joyful that we ourselves are thine,
Thine let our offspring be!

4 With zeal divine the Parents bless;
Their duty may they see!
That they may teach the infant race,
And train them up for Thee!

HYMN 305.

1 PREVENT us with thy favour, Lord!
And thy continued help afford;

In THEE let all our works be done,-
Ended in THEE-in THEE begun!

2 Baptiz'd into THY TRIUNE NAME
Ere yet our dawn of reason came,
Now we are taught THAT NAME to know;
Now we have learnt THY praise to show.

3 That water on our bodies fell;
Within them let thy Spirit dwell!
Thy promis'd inward grace impart
To wash the soul, and cleanse the heart!
4 Then,-dead to sin, to God alive,-
We shall as Christian warriors strive;
Satan, the world, the flesh subdue;
Thy word believe; thy paths pursue.

5 0 may our vow the witness be

Of a good conscience towards Thee!
Thee may we serve,-Thy truth maintain,—
And thine Eternal Kingdom gain!

1 LORD, shall thy children come to thee? A boon of love divine we seek. Brought to thy arms in infancy,

Ere heart could feel or tongue could speak, Thy children pray for grace, that they May come themselves to thee this day.

2 Lord, shall we come? and come again, Oft as we see yon table spread,

And, tokens of thy dying pain,

The wine poured out, the broken bread? Bless, bless, O Lord, thy children's prayer That they may come and find thee there. 3 Lord, shall we come? come yet again? Thy children ask one blessing more, To come, not now alone, but then, When life and death and time are o'er; Then, there to come, O Lord, and be Confirm'd in heaven, confirm'd by Thee. HYMN 307.

1 MY God! and is Thy table spread?
And does Thy cup with love o'erflow?
Thither be all thy children led!

And let them all thy goodness know.
2 Hail, sacred feast! which Jesus makes;
Rich banquet of his flesh and blood.
Thrice happy he, who there partakes
That sacred stream, that heavenly food.

3 Lord! let thy table honour'd be,

And furnish'd well with joyful guests! And may each soul salvation see,

That there its sacred pledges tastes!

4 Drawn by thy quickening grace, O Lord, Let crowds approach with hearts prepar'd;

To all thy saving grace afford!

By all thy saving power be shar'd '....

5 Revive thy dying churches, Lord! And bid our drooping graces live: And more, that energy afford

A Saviour's blood alone can give.

HYMN 308.

1 IF human kindness meets return,
And owns the grateful tie;
If tender thoughts within us burn,
To feel a friend is nigh;

2 Oh! shall not warmer accents tell
The gratitude we owe

To Him who died, our fears to quell,
And save from endless woe?

3 While yet his anguish'd soul survey'd Those pangs he would not flee, What love his latest words display'd, "Meet and remember me!"

4 Remember thee! Although thy shame It be our lot to share.

1

O mem❜ry, leave no other name
But His recorded there!

HYMN 309.

JESUS invites his saints
To meet around his board;
Here pardon'd rebels sit and hold
Communion with their Lord.

2 Our heav'nly Father calls

Christ and his members one;
We the young children of his love,
And He first-born Son.

[blocks in formation]

Of the same broken bread;

One body hath its sevʼral limbs,
But Jesus is the head.
