HYMN LV.

(8. 7.)

Benediction.

MAY the grace of Christ our Saviour,

And the Father's boundless love,

With the Holy Spirit's favour,

Rest upon us from above!
Thus may we abide in union
With each other and the Lord
And possess, in sweet communion,
Joys which earth cannot afford.

LMIGHTY Father! bless the word, Which, thro' thy grace, we now have heard: O may the precious seed take root, Spring up, and bear abundant fruit. 2.We praise thee for the means of grace Thus in thy courts to seek thy face: Grant, Lord, that all who worship here, May, sav'd from sin, in heav'n appear.

AGAIN our ears have heard the voice

Which bids the dying live:

O may the sound our hearts rejoice,
And hope immortal give!

2 And have we heard the word with joy? And have we felt its pow'r?

1

To keep it, then, be our employ "Till life's remotest hour.

151. HYMN LVIII.

(8. 7. 4.)

For a Blessing on the Word. [AY the pow'r that brings salvation, Now exerted in the Word,

MAY

By its quick'ning operation,
Life impart, and joy afford!

Life to sinners:

Joy to those who know the Lord! 2 Hark! the voice of love proclaiming Mercy through a Saviour's blood! Vain the schemes of human framing : This alone is own'd of God. "Tis the gospel

LL hail the pow'r of Jesu's name!
Let angels prostrate fall;

Bring forth the royal diadem,
And crown him Lord of all.
2 O that with yonder sacred throng,
We at his feet may fall!

There join the everlasting song,
And crown him Lord of all.

HYMN LX.

ORD, behold us few and weak,
Humbly at thy feet we fall;
See, we come thy face to seek ;

(7's.)

Deign, O deign to hear our call! 2 Jesus, thou didst shed thy blood! On this rock our hope we raise; Thou hast brought us nigh to God; Thine the work, and thine the praise.

[blocks in formation]

LORY to thee, my God, this night,
For all the blessings of the light:
Keep me, O keep me, King of kings,
Under thine own almighty wings.
2 Forgive me, Lord, for thy dear Son,
The ills which I this day have done;
That with the world, myself, and thee,
Í ere I sleep at peace may be.

3 Teach me to live, that I may dread
The grave as little as my bed:
Teach me to die, that so I may
With joy behold the judgment day.
4 O may my soul on thee reposé,
And with sweet sleep mine eyelids close
Sleep, that may me more active make,
To serve my God when I awake.

5 If wakeful in the night I lie,

My soul with heav'nly thoughts supply;
Let no ill dreams disturb my rest,

No pow'rs of darkness me molest.

6 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, angelic host;

1

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

E This day shew'd

RE I sleep, for ev'ry favour

By my God,

I do bless my Saviour.

2 Leave me not, but ever love me;

Let thy peace
Be my bliss,

"Till thou hence remove me.

3 Thou, my rock, my guardian tower,
While I sleep,
Safely keep

Me, with all thy power.

4 And, whene'r in death I slumber, Let me rise

With the wise,

Counted in their number.

Who for lost man's redemption died ;
And equal adoration be,

O God the Spirit, paid to thee.
