light, twenty thousand dollars; for grading and improving grounds, removing and rebuilding greenhouses and laying walks, the sum of two thousand five hundred dollars; for ventilation, contingent and extraordinary repairs, the sum of two thousand five hundred dollars; for rebuilding icehouse, the sum of six hundred dollars; for removing and repairing the cottage now occupied by the gardener, the sum of one thousand dollars; the sum of sixteen hundred and ninety-nine dollars and seventy-two cents, being the balance of three thousand dollars appropriated by chapter seven hundred and twenty-six of the laws of eighteen hundred and ninety-three, for completing the sewerage system for said asylum, is hereby reappropriated for the purpose specified, payable upon vouchers to be approved by the comptroller.

HOUSES OF REFUGE FOR WOMEN.

For the House of Refuge for Women at Hudson, for extending electric-light plant to buildings not now wired, two thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary.

For the Western House of Refuge for Women, at Albion, one thousand dollars, for the equipment of cottages numbers three and four; two hundred dollars for constructing a pigpen and henhouse; one thousand dollars for extraordinary repairs and general equipment; and seven thousand five hundred dollars for sewerage and drainage ordered by the state board of health.

NORTHERN NEW YORK INSTITUTION FOR DEAF MUTES.

An aditional sum of five thousand nine hundred and fifty-one dollars and eighty-one cents, or so much thereof as may be necessary, is hereby appropriated, out of any moneys in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, to be paid by the treasurer on the warrant of the comptroller, for lighting, heating, plumbing and furnishing the kindergarten building above mentioned, and for providing the same with fire-escapes and for introducing and completing a new system of water closets in the main building of said institution.

For the board of electrical control in and for the city of New York, for the services and expenses of the commissioners thereof, for the fiscal year ending September thirtieth, eighteen hundred and ninety-seven, forty-five thousand dollars, which amounts to

For the payment of the necessary force of clerks, draughtsmen and inspectors in the office of the capitol commissioner, for their services in the repairs, improvements and erection of state buildings other than the new capitol, the sum of thirty-five thousand dollars.

For Henry F. Glisan, for balance due him for services as ste nographer to the special railroad committee appointed to investigate surface and elevated railroads, pursuant to a resolution of the assembly, session of eighteen hundred and ninety-five, the sum of two thousand seven hundred and fifty-five dollars and seventy cents, which has been audited and allowed by the comptroller. For Clarance V. C. Van Deusen, for services and expenses in assisting in the drafting of chapter nine hundred and nine of the laws of eighteen hundred and ninety-six, known as the election law, constituting chapter six of the general laws, and the amend ments thereto in the year eighteen hundred and ninety-seven, the sum of one thousand dollars.

For Robert C. Chapin, the sum of one thousand four hundred and twenty-two dollars and eighty cents, being the amount which has been audited and allowed by the comptroller, for his services in reporting the investigation of the management of the New York and Brooklyn bridge, for the senate committee on the affairs of cities.

For supplying the Deaf-Mute Journal for the indigent deaf and dumb of this state, the sum of six hundred and fifty dollars.

For the support and instruction of eight pupils at the Albany School for Home School for the Deaf during the balance of the year eighteen hundred and ninety-seven and until October first, eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, at an annual compensation of two hundred and sixty dollars each per year, twenty-four hundred and fifty-five dollars; a proportionate amount for a shorter period of time than one year, or for a smaller number of pupils, shall be allowed and paid by the comptroller upon certificates verified by oath of the president and secretary of such institution and upon approval of the superintendent of public instruction.
