O LORD JESUS CHRIST, who by the mouth of Thy holy Prophet hast said, I have loved Thee with an Everlasting Love, therefore have I drawn Thee to Myself, taking pity on thee: by that Divine love which brought Thee down from Heaven to suffer all the torments of Thy Passion for our Redemption, we humbly beseech Thee to offer to Thy Eternal FATHER the same love, in behalf of the soul of this Thy servant to deliver him from all the sufferings and pains which he has deserved for his sins: and save his soul in this hour of its departure out of his body. Open to him the gates of Life, introduce him into Thy Heavenly Paradise, and make him rejoice with Thy saints; that he may live with Thee in the bond of Eternal Love, and may be inseparably united to Thee, who, with the FATHER and the HOLY GHOST, livest and reignest GOD world without end. Amen.

Let us Pray.

To Thee, O LORD, we recommend the soul of Thy

servant that being dead to this world he may live to Thee; and whatever sins he hath committed in this life through human frailty, do Thou, in Thy most merciful goodness, pardon. Through our LORD JESUS CHRIST, &c.

Then for a conclusion may be added the following Prayer for those who are present.

RANT, O GOD, that while we lament the departure J of this Thy servant, we may always remember that we are most certainly to follow him. Give us grace to prepare for that last hour by a good life, that we may not be surprised by a sudden and unprovided death, but be ever watching, that when Thou shalt call we may with the Bridegroom enter into Eternal Glory. Through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

PRAYERS FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS.

ADVENT.

LORD JESU CHRIST, Who, at Thy first coming, didst warn us to prepare for the day when Thou shalt come to be our Judge; mercifully grant that being awake from the sleep of sin, we may be always watching and intent upon the work Thou hast given us to do; Who livest and reignest with the FATHER and the HOLY GHOST, ever one GOD, world without end. Amen.

CHRISTMAS.

GOD, Who makest us glad with the yearly US

membrance of the birth of Thy only Son JESUS CHRIST; grant that, as we joyfully receive Him for our Redeemer, so we may with sure confidence behold Him when He shall come to be our Judge; Who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the HOLY GHOST, one GOD, world without end. Amen.

NEW YEAR'S EVE.

LMIGHTY and most merciful FATHER, Who hast

A continued our lives from year to year, grant that,

as our years pass by, we may become less desirous of sinful pleasures, and more careful of Eternal happiness. Let not our years be multiplied to increase our guilt, but, as our age advances, let us become more pure in our thoughts, more Heavenly in our affections, more chastened in our desires, and more obedient in our lives. Forgive, O most merciful LORD, whatever we have done in the course of the past year contrary to Thy all-holy will. Give us such a sense of our sinfulness as may produce true contrition and effectual repentance, so that, when we shall be called into another state, we may be received among the sinners who have obtained pardon. O grant that when the years of this short life are over, and the night cometh when no man can work, we may fall asleep in Thy holy

love, and rest in holy hope, and at last, with all dear to us, return to the joys of a blessed Resurrection, for JESUS CHRIST'S sake, our LORD. Amen.

MOST gracious GOD, we bless Thee this day, because Thou hast brought us safely to the beginning of another year. We bless Thee for the continuance of our life, and for the many undeserved mercies, which daily supply our wants and gladden our hearts. Pardon, we beseech Thee, all our misuse of Thy mercies, our mis-spent time, our manifold sins. Give us grace to begin this New Year with renewed desires to serve Thee, and to devote ourselves to the work of our salvation with increased fervour, that, remembering how short and uncertain our time is, we may live prepared for the great change that awaits us, so that death may never overtake us unawares, and that, whether living or dying, we may be Thine, through the mediation of JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

GOOD FRIDAY.

LORD JESU CHRIST, the SON of the Living GOD, the CREATOR and REDEEMER of all mankind, Who camest down from Heaven and tookest our flesh, and, as on this day, didst humble Thyself even to the death of the Cross for us men and for our salvation; by all Thy most sacred sufferings, by Thy bitter Death, and most precious Blood shed for us, vouchsafe, O LORD, to deliver us all. Fill us with Thy grace, and with holy peace, and with all virtue; and grant us to persevere unto death, that, making a good end of this present life, we may be brought to Eternal Life in Thy Heavenly kingdom, where Thou livest and reignest, with the FATHER and the HOLY GHOST, one GOD, world without end. Amen.

Who

LORD, our Heavenly FATHER, Who didst appoint a Sabbath after our first creation, and Who, as at this time, didst give Thy blessed SON our SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST to rest from the work of our Redemption, grant us rest from the world and sin, and to wait for the morning of the Resurrection, through the same Thy SON, JESUS CHRIST our LORD. EASTER.

ALMIGHTY GOD, Whose only-begotten SON, as at this time, did burst the bonds of death, because it was not possible that He should be holden of it,

raise us, we pray Thee, from the death of sin unto the life of righteousness, that, at the last day, when He shall come again in glory, we may be quickened in our mortal bodies, through the same Spirit that quickened Him, Who was the first-born from the dead, and is now alive for evermore; in Whose Name we beseech Thee to hear us, O merciful and gracious LORD. Amen.

GOD, whose most dearly beloved SON was, by Thy mighty power, exalted into the Heavens, that He might prepare a place in Thy kingdom of glory for them that truly love Thee, so lead and uphold us, O merciful LORD, that we may both follow the most holy steps of His life here on earth, and may enter with Him hereafter into Thy Everlasting rest, that where He is we may be also; through the merits of the same JESUS CHRIST our LORD, to whom with Thee and the HOLY GHOST, be all honour and glory, world without end.
