Jesus the long expected Saviour's come, Let every heart prepare to make him room; Let infant tongues proclaim his love abroad, And join to praise their Saviour and their God.

HYMN XV. FOR CHRISTMAS-DAY.

"SHEPHERDS rejoice, lift up your eyes, your fears away;

Send all

We bring glad tidings from the skies,
Salvation's born to-day."

Thus Angels sung, and strait along,
The heavenly choir throng;
They tune their harps to lofty strains,
And this the chorus of their song:

"Glory to God, who reigns above,
Peace be to all on earth;

Mortals shall know their Maker's love,
By a Redeemer's birth.”

Lord, and shall Angels have their songs,
And men no tunes to raise ?

O give us grace, that we our tongues,
May use harmonious in thy praise.

Glory to God, who from above,
Pity'd our state forlorn ;

We'll join to sing our Maker's love,
For there's a Saviour born.

HYMN XVI.

NATIVITY.

HARK! the herald-angels sing,
"Glory to the new-born King!
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconcil'd."

Joyful all ye nations rise,

Join the triumphs of the skies;
With th' angelic host proclaim,
"Christ is born in Bethlehem."

Christ, by highest heav'n ador'd,
Christ, the everlasting Lord;

Late in time behold him come,
Offspring of a virgin's womb:

Veil'd in flesh, the Godhead see,
Hail th' incarnate Deity!

Pleas'd as man with men t' appear,

Jesus, our Immanual here.

Hail, the heaven-born Prince of Peace!

Hail, the Son of Righteousness!

Light and life to all he brings,
Ris'n with healing in his wings:
Mild he lays his glory by,

Born, that man no more may die:
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.

HYMN XVII. FOR CHRISTMAS-DAY.

REJOICE My Soul, behold the morn,
On which the prince of life was born:
Messiah leaves his Father's throne;
The glorious Lord of all, comes down.

Shout all ye flaming hosts above,

Let Heaven resound with Jesu's love!! In ceaseless hallelujahs cry

"All glory be to God on high."

He meekly stoops to visit earth,
No honours solemnize his birth,
No outward pomp the God displays,
Nor glory decks the Saviour's face.
Shout all ye, &c.

Arise my soul, and hail the day,
Nor sleep the solemn hours away;
With Angel hosts, arise and sing-
"Hosannah to our new-born King."
Shout all ye, &c.

HYMN XVIII. FOR CHRISTMAS-DAY.

BEHOLD, the grace appears,

The promise is fulfill'd;

Mary the wond'rous virgin bears,

And Jesus is the child.

To bring the glorious news,
A heav'nly form appears;

He tells the shepherds of their joys,
And banishes their fears.

"Go humble swains," said he,
"To David's city fly;

The promis'd infant born to-day
Doth in a manger lie.

With looks and hearts serene,

Go visit Christ your King;"

And straight a flaming troop was seen;
The Shepherds heard them sing:
"Glory to God on high,

And heav'nly peace on earth,
Good-will to men, to Angels joy,

At the Redeemer's birth.".

HYMN XIX. FOR CHRISTMAS-DAY.

WHILE Shepherds watch'd their flocks by

All seated on the ground,

The angel of the Lord came down,
And glory shone around.

[night,
