FOR THE USE OF
REV. SAMUEL KNIGHT, A. M.
Late Vicar of Halifax :
TO WHICH IS ADDED
A SECOND SERIES,
REV. JAMES KNIGHT, A. M.
PERPETUAL curate of St. PAUL'S CHURCH,
PRINTED AND SOLD BY N. WHITLEY:
LONGMAN, REES, ORME, BROWN, AND GREEN; AND
IT was well known to many of those who were intimately acquainted with the revered Author of the First Series in the following Manual, that he had been repeatedly and earnestly requested, from many quarters, to extend his original Work, which had been received with very general approbation by the Christian community.
That it was his intention to comply with this request appears evident from the circumstance, that among his manuscripts a book has been found, on the first leaf of which a considerable portion of a Prayer for the Lord's Day Morning has been written by him in a clear and distinct hand. It is regretted that the remainder of that book consists of blank leaves only.
It has been the endeavour of the present Editor to supply from the resources of his own mind, with the aid of Scripture and our admirable Church Liturgy, that lack of service, which, there is reason to believe, the lamented removal of his revered Parent has occasioned.
He has made it his object to adhere as closely as possible to the scriptural simplicity of the former Series; in the revisal of which he has for various reasons followed the interleaved copy of the Author, containing his latest alterations and corrections. How far he has succeeded, in the whole under
taking, it is for others, not for himself, to decide.
