4 Then save us, Lord, and still proceed
The rightful cause to bless;

Hear, King of Heaven, in time of need,
The prayers that we address.

PSALM XXI.-(N.V.)

The glory and triumph of the Redeemer.

1 THE King, O Lord, with songs of praise
Shall in thy strength rejoice;
With thy salvation crown'd, shall raise
To heav'n his grateful voice.

2 For Thou thy grace and glory, Lord!
To Him hast freely given,

And on thine own Anointed pour'd
The choicest gifts of heaven.

3 Thou too hast spread thro' nations round The triumphs of his name,

And his victorious actions crown'd
With everlasting fame.

4 Then, Lord, exalt Thyself on high,
In realms of endless light;

So shall we sing right solemnly
The praises of thy might.

PSALM XXII.—(MV.)

The praises of spiritual Israel for the redemption through Christ.

1 YE worshippers of Jacob's God,
Like Israel's faithful line,

O praise the Lord, and to your praise
Sincere obedience join.

2 He ne'er disdain'd on low distress
To cast a gracious eye;
Nor turn'd from poverty his face,
But heard its humble cry.

3 The lowly and the meek in heart
Shall find his table spread;

And all that seek the Lord shall be
With joys immortal fed.

4 May all the glad converted world
To God their homage pay;
And scatter'd nations of the earth
One Sovereign Lord obey!

PSALM XXIII.-(N.V.)

"I am the good Shepherd."

1 THE Lord himself, the mighty Lord,
Vouchsafes to be my guide;

The shepherd, by whose constant care
My wants are all supplied.

2 In tender grass He makes me feed,
And gently there repose;

Then leads me to cool shades, and where
Refreshing water flows.

3 He does my wand'ring soul reclaim,
And, to his endless praise,
Instruct with humble zeal to walk
In his most righteous ways.

4 Since God doth thus his wondrous love
Through all my life extend,
That life to Him I will devote,
And in his temple spend.

PSALM XXIV.-(N.V.)

Christ's Ascension.

1 LIFT up your heads, eternal gates,
Lift up to entertain

The King of Glory-lo! He comes,
With his celestial train.

2 Who is the King of Glory? Who?
The Lord of Hosts renown'd,

In battle mighty, o'er his foes
Eternal victor crown'd.

3 Lift up your heads, eternal gates,
Lift up to entertain

The King of Glory-lo! He comes,
With his celestial train.

4 Who is the King of Glory? Who?
The Lord of Hosts renown'd;

Of glory He alone is King,
Who is with glory crown'd.

PSALM XXV.-(N.V.)

God giveth pardon und instruction to those who fear Him.

1 His goodness and his truth
The righteous Lord displays,
In bringing wand'ring sinners home,
And teaching them his ways.

2 He those in mercy guides

Who his direction seek;

And in his sacred paths shall lead
The humble and the meek.

3 For God to all his saints
His secret will imparts;

And doth his gracious cov'nant write
In their obedient hearts.

4 To all thy servants, Lord,
Continue ever kind;

And in the midst of all their wants
Let them thy succour find!

PSALM XXVI.—(N.V.)

The safety and blessedness of the true in heart.

1 JUDGE me, O Lord; for I the paths
Of righteousness have trod;
I cannot fall, who all my trust
Repose on Thee, my God.

2 Search, prove my heart, whose innocence
Will shine the more 'tis tried ;
For I have kept thy word in view,
And made thy grace my guide.

3 Then I both pure in heart and hand,
Will to thine altar go,

To taste thy mercies there, and there
Thine endless praises shew.

4 Then, Lord, for ever will I dwell
Thy sacred courts within ;
And ever there a refuge find
From sorrow and from sin.

PSALM XXVII.

The house of God the delight and safety of his people.

1 THE Lord of glory is my light,

And my salvation too;

God is my strength; nor will I fear
What all my foes can do.
