His Royal Highness has also been graciously pleased, in the name and on the behalf of His Majesty, to appoint the Honourable Francis Reginald Forbes to be Secretary to His Majesty's Legation at that Court.

The Lord Chancellor has appointed William Rowland, of Ramsbury, in the county of Wilts, Gent, to be a Master Extraordinary in the High Court of Chancery.

At the Court at Carlton-House, the 24th of July 1817,

PRESENT,

His Royal Highness the PRINCE REGENT in Council.

HIS Royal Highness the Prince Regent having been pleased, in the name and on the behalf of His Majesty, to appoint Hugh Duke of Northumberland to be Lord Lieutenant of the county of Northumberland, his Grace this day took the oaths appointed to be taken thereupon, instead of the oaths of Allegiance and Supremacy.

At the Court at Carlton-House, July 24, 1817.

A CHAPTER of the Most Noble Order of the Garter having been summoned for this day, the Knights Companions, in their mantles and collars, and the Officers of the Order, in their mantles, chains, and badges, attended His Royal Highness the Prince Regent in his own apartment soon after three o'clock; and, being called over by Garter Principal King of Arms, a procession was made to. the Chapter-Room in the following order:

Viscount Castlereagh. Earl of Liverpool.
Marquess of Hertford.

Earl of Pembroke.

Marquess of Abercorn.

Earl

Earl of Hardwicke.
Marquess Camden.

Earl of Westmorland. Marquess of Salisbury.. His Royal Highness the Duke of Cumberland. His Royal Highness the Duke of York.

His Royal Highness the PRINCE REGENT..

The Prince Regent and the Knights Companions being seated, the Chancellor, standing in his place on the left hand of His Royal Highness, signified to the Chapter the Prince Regent's pleasure, in the name and on the behalf of the Sovereign, for filling the stall vacant in the Royal Chapel of St. George at Windsor,

And, as none but a Knight can be elected, Garter and Black Rod were thereupon commanded by His Royal Highness to introduce the Earl. Bathurst; and his Lordship, having been knighted, with the sword of state, withdrew.

The suffrages were then collected by the Chancellor and presented by him to the Prince Regent,, who thereupon commanded his Lordship to declare that Henry Earl Bathurst, one of His Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State, was duly elected a Knight of the Most Noble Order.

The Earl was thereupon received at the door of the Chapter-Room by the two Junior Knights. Companions, and by them conducted to the Prince: Regent, preceded by Garter (bearing the ensigns. on a crimson velvet cushion) and Black Rod.

Garter

Garter then presented the Garter to the PrinceRegent; and His Royal Highness, assisted by the two Senior Knights Companions present, buckled the same on Earl Bathurst's left leg; the Chancellor pronouncing the admonition.

Garter then presented the ribband with the George; and His Royal Highness, assisted by the said two Senior Knights Companions, put the same over the Earl's shoulder; the Chancellor pronouncing the admonition.

Earl Bathurst having kissed His Royal Highness's hand, and saluted, severally, the Knights Companions (bowing only to those of the Blood Royal), retired.

The Chapter ended, Garter called over the Knights Companions; and a procession was made back to the private apartment of His Royal Highness,, in. the order as before.

His Royal Highness the Prince Regent has been: pleased, in the name and on the behalf of His Majesty, to direct letters patent to pass under the great seal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain. and Ireland, conferring the honour of Knighthood: upon William Henry Robinson, Esq. Commissary. General to His Majesty's forces serving in Canada.

His Royal Highness the Prince Regent has been pleased, in the name and on the behalf of His Majesty, to grant permission to the 34th Foot to bear on its colours and appointments, in addition to any other badges or devices which may have been heretofore granted to the Regiment, the word

Vittoria," in commemoration of the distinguished services of the late 2d Battalion of that Regiment in the battle of Vittoria, in Spain, on the 21st June 1812.

HIS Royal Highness the Prince Regent hath been pleased, in the name and on the behalf of His Majesty, to grant unto Field-Marshal His Grace the Duke of Wellington, Knight of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, &c. &c. &c. His Majesty's royal licence and permission, that he may accept and wear the insignia of a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Sicilian Military Order of Saint Ferdinand aud of Merit, and also of a Knight of the Royal Sicilian Order of Saint Januarius, which His Majesty the King of the Two Sicilies has been pleased to confer upon His Grace, in testimony of the high sense that Sovereign entertains of his distinguished merits and brilliant achieve
