The Lord Chancellor has appointed Henry Story, of Stockton, in the county of Durham, Gent. to be a Master Extraordinary in the High Court of Chancery.

Whereas it hath been humbly represented unto His Royal Highness the Prince Regent, that, on the evening of Sunday the 17th instant, a rick of old hay, the property of Charles Arnott, Esq. of Rushington, in the parish of Eling, in the county of Southampton, was wilfully and maliciously set on fire by some evil-disposed person or persons unknown;

His Royal Highness, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the person or persons concerned in the felony above mentioned, is hereby

pleased, in the name and on the behalf of His Majesty, to promise His Majesty's most gracious pardon to any one of them (except the person who actually set fire to the said rick of hay), who shall discover his, her, or their accomplice or accomplices therein, so that he, she, or they may be apprehended and convicted thereof.

BATHURST,

And, as a further encouragement, a reward of FIFTY POUNDS is hereby offered by the said Charles Arnott, Esq. to any person or persons (except as is before excepted), who shall discover his, her, or their accomplice or accomplices therein, so that he, she, or they may be apprehended and convicted thereof; or to any person or persons who shall apprehend and bring the offenders, or any of them, to conviction, or cause them, or any of them, so to be apprehended and convicted as aforesaid.

HIS Royal Highness the Prince Regent has been graciously pleased, in the name and on the behalf of His Majesty, to appoint Lieut.-General Francis Thomas Hammond to the Office of Chief Equerry to His Royal Highness and Clerk Marshall of the Stables, in the roo:n of Sir Benjamin Bloomfield, promoted.

Whitehall, August 26, 1817.

Whereas it hath been humbly represented unto His Royal Highness the Prince Regent, that on the night of the 30th of July last, some person or persons did most cruelly and maliciously cut, maim, and destroy a hackney mare, and on the night of the 1st of August instant, did also cut, maim, and destroy a bullock, the property of George Haskins, and did also on the last mentioned night fire at the said George Haskins, with intent to kill him in his own dwelling house; and that there is reason to suppose that the above-mentioned outrages were committed out of malice and revenge towards the said George Haskins, for having zealously and faithfully discharged his duty as constable of the hamlet of Oldland;

His Royal Highness, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the person or persons concerned in the outrages above-mentioned, is hereby pleased, in the name and on the behalf of His Majesty, to promise His Majesty's most gracious pardon to any one of them (except the person who actually committed either of the outrages abovementioned), who shall discover his, her, or their accomplice or accomplices therein, so that he, she, or they may be apprehended and convicted thereof. BATHURST.

And, as a further encouragement, a reward of TWENTY-FIVE GUINEAS is hereby offered by the Association for the Prosecution of Felons, in and round the neighbourhood of Cockroad, in the parish of Bitton, near Bristol, to any person or persons (except as is before excepted) who shall discover his, her, or their accomplice or accomplices therein, so that he, she, or they may be apprehended and convicted thereof, or to any person or

persons who shall apprehend and bring the offenders, or any of them, to conviction, or cause them, or any of them, so to be apprehended and convicted as aforesaid.

HIS Royal Highness the Prince Regent has been pleased, in the name and on the behalf of His Majesty, to appoint the Right Honourable John Lord Sommers to be Lord Lieutenant of the county of Hereford, in the room of the Earl of Essex, resigned.

Whitehall, August 25, 1817.

His Royal Highness the Prince Regent, taking into His royal consideration the eminent services performed by Reard-Admiral Sir David Milne, Knight-Commander of the Most Honourable Military Order of the Bath, upon various occasions during a period of thirty seven years in His Majesty's service, particularly his signal intrepidity when Second Lieutenant of His Majesty's ship Blanche, on the 5th day of January 1795, in action with the French national frigate La Pique, of superior force, which after a sanguinary engagement was compelled to surrender to the Blanche; as also his judicious and persevering conduct in the subsequent command of the said frigate La Pique,

in the capture of the French ship La Seine, on the 30th June 1798; and his conspicuous gallantry on the 20th August 1800, when being Captain of the last mentioned ship, he, after an arduous action, succeeded in capturing the French frigate Vengeance, although greatly superior to the ship under his command in size, guns, and number of men; and His Royal Highness, being desirous in an especial manner to evince the sense he entertains of the distinguished merits of the said Read-Admiral in the above brilliant actions, and more particularly his meritorious conduct as second in command, at the attack upon the town and shipping of Algiers, on the 27th day of August last, upon which occasion he commanded His Majesty's ship Impregnable, and by his signal intrepidity and skill eminently contributed to the glorious and successful result of that memorable day, hath been pleased, in the name and on the behalf of His Majesty, to grant unto the said Sir David Milne His Majesty's royal licence and permission that he and his descendants may, as a lasting memorial of His Majesty's royal approbation, bear the armorial distinctions following, viz. " A cross moline quarterly "pierced between three mullets, on a chief of "honourable augmentation wavy, a fortified light"house, thereon a red flag flying, flanked by a "battery of three tiers of guns, with a like flag on "the dexter, and another battery on the sinister,” the whole being intended to represent that part of the works defending the town and port of Algiers, to which His Majesty's ship Impregnable, bearing the flag of the said Rear-Admiral, was opposed on the said ever-memorable attack: and for crest, "Out of a naval crown a cubit arm, holding the

flag of a Rear-Admiral of the Blue, inscribed "with the word IMPREGNABLE:" provided the said honourable armorial distinctions be first duly exemplified according to the laws of arms, and
