The INVENTION of the Cross. The festival of Holy-rood-day, which belongs both to the Latin and Greek, as well as to the English church, commemorates the discovery (inventio), by the Empress Helena, in the year 326, of the Holy Cross upon which our Saviour was put to death. The rubric-board affixed was one foot in length, and its inscription in the three tongues, comprised in five lines, and expressed by red letters.
