OPPORTUNITY has been taken of the demand for a Second Edition of this Work to practically rewrite it. In this Edition it has been the object of the Author to summarize in the form of a Digest or Code all the rules of law relating to the two kindred subjects of Merchant Shiping and Marine Insurance; while in the former Edition only the more elementary rules were stated. In addition thereto, certain new subjects connected with the Law of Shipping have been added. The Chapters on Towage, Pilotage, Necessaries, Stoppage in Transitu and Passengers are entirely new; in the Appendix the Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, along with the most important cases decided thereon, have been inserted.
