THE proper perfons to adminifter in all the folemn parts of publick worship, are the Bifhops; and in their abfence and by their permiffion the Presby ters or Priefts, and both as miniftred to by the

Deacons.

If there be no Deacon belonging to any particular church, what is in this book ordered to be performed by him, must be done by the Prieft.

Note, that where-ever in this book the People are appointed to do any thing, the Deacon and all the Clergy prefent (except the Officiating Prieft) are Supposed to be included in the rule, unless it be otherwife particularly ordered.

It is to be noted, that fuch ornaments of the Church and of the Clergy at all times of their miniftration, fhall be retained and be in ufe, as were in the Church of England in the fecond year of the reign of King Edward the Sixth.

The pofture for the Faithful in prayer, and at the reception of the Eucharift, is Kneeling, on all days but the Lord's days and all the days between Eafter and Pentecoft, on which it is Standing, in respect to and remembrance of our Saviour's refurrection: and therefore where-ever in this book the Faithful are ordered to kneel, thofe times are fuppofed to be excepted.

The People during the time of Divine Service are always to have their faces turned towards the Al

the fame is fuppofed of the Prieft and Deacon whenever they kneel, and likewife when they ftand, except where it is otherwife ordered.

The men and women are to fit feparate in the publick affemblies.

Publick prayers are to be ufed Morning and Evening every day. The time for the Holy Liturgy or folemn Communion Service is between nine in the morning and noon, except those days on which the Penitential office is appointed, which is to be ufed about that time, and the Communion Service (if the Eucharist be celebrated) about two of the clock.

On Mondays, the Bishop, with as many of the Clergy as conveniently can, are to meet together for the exercife of difcipline according to the laws of the gospel and the ecclefiaftical canons. Any of the Faithful may alfo be prefent, if they pleafe. And forafmuch as nothing can be fo plainly fet forth, but doubts may arife in the ufe and practice of the fame; to appeafe all fuch diverfity (if any arife) and for the refolution of all doubts concerning the manner how to understand, do, and execute the things contained in this book, the parties that fo doubt or diverfly take any thing fhall alway refort to the Bishop of the Diocefe, who by his difcretion shall take order for the quieting and appeafing of the fame. And if the Bishop of the Diocefe be in doubt, he must apply for the refolution thereof to the Metropolitan and College of Bishops in Provincial Synod affembled.

At the end of every Pfalm, and of every part of the 119th Pfalm, fhall be repeated in the Morning Service this Hymn,

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son: and to the Holy Ghoft;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen.

But in the Evening Service this Hymn, Glory be to the Father, through the Son: in the Holy Ghoft;

And Note, that in whatever part of Divine Service either of thefe Doxologies is ordered to be used, on all Sundays and upon every day between Eafter and Pentecoft, the word Hallelujah shall be added in this manner,

The ORDER how the rest of Holy Scripture is appointed to be read. To know what Leffons fhall be read every day, look for the day of the month in the Kalendar following, and you shall find there the chapters that Shall be read for the Leffons both at Morning and Evening Prayer; except only the Moveable Feafts, which are not in the Kalendar, and the Immoveable, where there is a blank left in the column of Leffons; the proper Leffons for all which days are to be found in the Table of proper Leffons.

And note, that whenfoever proper Lejons are appointed, then the Leffons of ordinary courfe appointed in the Kalendar (if they be different) fhall be omitted for that time.

When any Leffons or Portions of the four Gofpels are read, it is to be done by a Prieft or Deacon, and the Congregation is to ftand up.
