This publication covers the coasts of Luzon, Mindoro, and the Visayan Islands with the adjacent islands and waters. It is based mainly upon the work of the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey. The waters north and northeast of Luzon have not yet been surveyed, and the notes relating to those waters have been compiled from a variety of sources, principally from the Spanish Derrotero and from reconnaissances by United States and Philippine Islands Government vessels. This volume covers the area formerly included in Sections I to IV, Philippine Islands Sailing Directions, compiled by John Dow, nautical expert in the Manila field station of the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey, and it consists of a rearrangement and revision of the fourth edition of that publication, together with a large amount of new information gathered by the various field officers of the survey. The present second edition has been prepared in the office of the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey at Manila by R. J. Christman, chief of chart division, under the supervision of R. B. Derickson, hydrographic and geodetic engineer, United States Coast and Geodetic Survey, director of coast surveys. Great courtesy has been shown by the United States Army, the Navy, the several Philippine government bureaus, local authorities, and navigators in the islands in furnishing information for use in this publication. The aids to navigation are corrected to June 30, 1927. Navigators are requested to notify the director of coast surveys, Manila, P. I., of any errors or omissions they may find in this publication or of additional matter which they think should be inserted for the information of mariners. |
